Pragad points to several forms of journalism that remain resistant to AI commoditisation:

“These formats anchor reporting to accountable institutions,” he said. “They carry identity and credibility in ways that cannot be flattened into anonymous data.”

As AI-generated content becomes more prevalent, trust has emerged as a defining competitive advantage for journalism.

“When misinformation spreads easily and AI text becomes harder to distinguish from verified reporting, trust becomes infrastructure,” Pragad said. “It determines whether audiences believe what they read.”

Editorial credibility is cumulative and fragile, he said. Once lost, it cannot be quickly rebuilt.

The case for publisher-AI collaboration

Rather than resisting AI outright, Pragad advocates for structured collaboration between publishers and technology platforms. That includes clearer attribution standards and fair compensation models when journalistic work is used to train or inform AI systems.

“Journalism underpins the quality of AI outputs. If reporting weakens, AI degrades with it.”

Since taking leadership in 2018, Pragad has overseen Newsweek’s expansion in digital formats, global platforms, and diversified revenue streams. For a long time, cryptocurrency prices moved quickly. A headline would hit, sentiment would spike, and charts would react almost immediately. That pattern no longer holds. Today’s market is slow, heavier than before, and shaped by forces that do not always announce themselves clearly. Capital allocation, ETF mechanics, and macro positioning now influence price behaviour in ways that are easy to overlook if you only watch short-term moves.

That change becomes obvious when you look at XRP. The XRP price today reflects decisions made by institutions, fund managers, and regulators as much as it reflects trading activity. AI tools are used increasingly to track such inputs – but they are often misunderstood. They do not predict outcomes. They organise complexity.

Understanding that distinction changes how you read the market.

How AI reads an ETF-driven market

AI systems do not look for narratives, but for relationships. In cryptocurrency markets, that means mapping ETF inflows and outflows against derivatives positioning, on-chain activity, and movements in traditional assets. What has changed recently is how much weight those signals now carry.

Binance Research has reported that altcoin ETFs have recorded more than US$2 billion in net inflows, with XRP and Solana leading that activity. AI models are good at identifying such behaviour, detecting rotation not momentum. They highlight where capital is reallocating even when prices remain range-bound. This is why markets can appear quiet while meaningful positioning takes place underneath.

AI only shows the movement, yet doesn’t explain the reasons behind it.

What AI can tell you about XRP

XRP does not always move in step with the rest of the market. When conditions change, its price often reacts to access, regulation, and liquidity before sentiment catches up. That pattern has shown up more than once, and it is one reason AI systems tend to weigh fund flows and market depth more heavily than short-term mood shifts when analysing XRP.

Binance Research has pointed to early 2026 as a period where liquidity is coming back without a clear return to risk-taking. Capital has rotated away from crowded trades, but it has not rushed to replace them. AI picks up on that imbalance quickly. It helps explain why XRP has seen ETF interest even while broader momentum in cryptocurrency has felt restrained.

That does not imply a forecast. It is closer to a snapshot of conditions. Market conversations may slow, headlines may thin out, and price can drift, yet positioning continues to evolve in the background. This is easy to miss if you focus only on visible activity.

AI is useful here because it stays indifferent to attention. Instead of responding to engagement spikes or sudden narrative shifts, it tracks what investors are actually doing. In markets where perception often moves ahead of reality, that distinction matters more than it first appears.

Where AI constantly falls short

For all its analytical power, AI has blind spots. Regulation is one of the most important. Models are trained on historical relationships, while regulatory decisions rarely follow historical patterns.

Richard Teng, Co-CEO of Binance, addressed this challenge after the exchange secured its ADGM license in January 2026. “The ADGM license crowns years of work to meet some of the world’s most demanding regulatory standards, and arriving in days of the moment we crossed 300 million registered users shows that scale and trust need not be in tension.” Developments like this can alter market confidence quickly, yet they are difficult to quantify before they happen.

AI responds well once regulatory outcomes are known. It struggles beforehand. For XRP, where regulatory clarity has played a central role in past price behaviour, this limitation is significant.

Another weakness is intent. AI can measure flows, but it cannot explain why investors choose caution, delay, or restraint. Defensive positioning does not always look dramatic in data, but it can shape markets for long periods.

Why human judgement still shapes the outcome

AI does not replace interpretation but supports it. Binance Research has described current conditions as a phase of liquidity preservation, with markets waiting for clearer catalysts like macro data releases and policy signals. AI can flag these moments of tension. It cannot tell you whether they will resolve into action or extend into stagnation.

Rachel Conlan, CMO of Binance, reflected on the broader maturity of the industry when discussing Binance Blockchain Week Dubai 2025. She described a market that is more focused on building than spectacle. That mindset applies equally to AI use. The goal is not prediction. It is informed judgement.

What this means when you look at price

When used properly, AI helps see forces that are easy to miss, especially in ETF-driven conditions. It highlights where liquidity is moving, where narratives fail to align with behaviour, and where patience may be a rational choice.

What it cannot do is remove uncertainty. In markets shaped by regulation, macro shifts, and institutional decision-making, judgement still matters. The clearest insight comes from combining machine analysis with human context.

If database technologies offered performance, flexibility and security, most professionals would be happy to get two of the three, and they might have to expect to accept some compromises, too. Systems optimised for speed demand manual tuning, while flexible platforms can impose costs when early designs become constraints. Security is, sadly, sometimes, a bolt-on, with DBAs relying on internal teams’ skills and knowledge not to introduce breaking changes.

RavenDB, however, exists because its founder saw the cumulative costs of those common trade-offs, and the inherent problems stemming from them. They wanted a database system that didn’t force developers and administrators to choose.

Abstracting away complexity

Oren Eini, RavenDB’s founder and CTO was working as a freelance database performance consultant nearly two decades ago. In an exclusive interview he recounted how he encountered many capable teams “digging themselves into a hole” as the systems in their care grew in complexity. Problems he was presented with didn’t stem from developers not possessing the required skills, but rather from system architecture. Databases tend to guide their developers towards fragile designs and punish developers for following those paths, he says. RavenDB was a project that began as a way to reduce friction when the unstoppable force of what’s required meets the mountain of database schema.

The platform’s emphasis is on performance and adaptability without (ironically) at some stage requiring the services of people like Oren. Armed with a bag full of experience and knowledge, he formed RavenDB, which has now been shipping for more than fifteen years – well before the current interest in AI-assisted development.

The bottom line is that over time, the RavenDB database adapts to what the organisation cares about, rather than what it guessed it might care about when the database was first spun up. “When I talk to business people,” Eini says, “I tell them I take care of data ownership complexity.”

For example, instead of expecting developers or DBAs to anticipate every possible query pattern, RavenDB observes queries as they are executed. If it detects that a query would benefit from an index, it creates one in the background, with minimal overhead on extant processing. This contrasts with most relational databases, where schema and indexing strategies are set by the initial developers, so are difficult to alter later, regardless of how an organisation may have changed.

Oren draws the comparison with pouring a building’s foundations before deciding where the doors and support columns might go. It’s an approach that can work, but when the business changes direction over the years, the cost of regretting those early decisions can be alarming.

Speaking ahead of the company’s appearance at the upcoming TechEx Global event in London this year (February 4 & 5, Olympia), he cited an example of a European client that struggled to expand into US markets because its database assumed a simple VAT rate that it had consigned to a single field, a schema not suitable for the complexities of state and federal sales taxes. From seemingly simple decisions made in the past (and perhaps not given much thought – European VAT is fairly standard), the client was storing financial pain and technical debt for the next generation.

Much of RavenDB’s attractiveness is manifest in practical details and small tweaks that make databases more performant and easier to address. Pagination, for example, requires two database calls in most systems (one to fetch a page of results, another to count matching records). RavenDB returns both in a single query. Individually, such optimisations may appear minor, but at scale they compound. Oren says. “If you smooth down the friction everywhere you go, you end up with a really good system where you don’t have to deal with friction.”

Compounded removal of frictions improves performance and makes developers’ jobs simpler. Related data is embedded or included without the penalties associated with table joins in relational databases, so complex queries are completed in a single round trip. Software engineers don’t need to be database specialists. In their world, they just formulate SQL-like queries to RavenDB’s APIs.

Compared to other NoSQL databases, Raven DB provides full ACID transactions by default, and reduced operational complexity: many of its baked-in features (ETL pipelines, subscriptions, full-text search, counters, time series, etc.) reduce the need for external systems.

In contrast with DBAs and software developers addressing a competing database system and its necessary adjuncts, both developers and admins spend less time sweating the detail with Raven DB. That’s good news, not least for those that hold an organisation’s purse strings.

Scaling to fit the purpose

RavenDB is also built to scale, as painlessly as it handles complex queries. It can create multi-node clusters if wanted so supports huge numbers of concurrent users. Such clusters are created by RavenDB without time-consuming manual configuration. “With RavenDB, this is normal cost of business,” he says.

In February this year, RavenDB Cloud announced version 7.2, and this being 2026, mention needs to be made of AI. Raven DB’s AI Assistant is, “in effect, […] a virtual DBA that comes inside of your database,” he says. The key word is inside. It’s designed for developers and administrators, not end users, answering their questions about indexing, storage usage or system behaviour.

AI as a professional tool

He’s sceptical about giving AIs unconfined access to any data store. Allowing an AI to act as a generic gatekeeper to sensitive information creates unavoidable security risks, because such systems are difficult to constrain reliably.

For the DBA and software developer, it’s another story – AI is a useful tool that operates as a helping hand, configuring and addressing the data. RavenDB’s AI assistant inherits the permissions of the user invoking it, having no privileged access of its own. “Anything it knows about your RavenDB instance comes because, behind the scenes, it’s accessing your system with your permissions,” he says.

The company’s AI strategy is to provide developers and admins with opinionated features: generating queries, explaining indexes, helping with schema exploration, and answering operational questions, with calls bounded by operator validation and privileges.

Teams developing applications with RavenDB get support for vector search, native embeddings, server-side indexing, and agnostic integration with external LLMs. This, Oren says, lets organisations deliver useful AI-driven features in their applications quickly, without exposing the business to risk and compliance issues.

Security and risk

Security and risk comprise one of those areas where RavenDB draws a clear line between it and its competitors. We touched on the recent MongoBleed vulnerability, which exposed data from unauthenticated MongoDB instances due to an interaction between compression and authentication code. Oren describes the issue as an architectural failure caused by mixing general-purpose and security-critical code paths. “The reason this is a vulnerability,” he says, “is specifically the fact that you’re trying to mix concerns.”

RavenDB uses established cryptographic infrastructure to handle authentication before any database logic is invoked. And even if a flaw emanated from elsewhere, the attack surface would be significantly smaller because unauthenticated users never reach the general code paths: that architectural separation limits the blast radius.

While the internals of RavenDB are highly technical and specialised, business decision-makers can easily appreciate that delays caused by schema changes, performance tuning, or infrastructure changes will have significant economic impact. But RavenDB’s malleability and speed also remove what Oren describes as the “no, you can’t do that” conversations.

Organisations running RavenDB reduce their dependency on specialist expertise, plus they get the ability to respond to changing business needs much more quickly. “[The database’s] role is to bring actual business value,” Eini says, arguing that infrastructure should, in operational contexts, fade into the background. As it stands, it often determines the scope of strategy discussions.

Migration and getting started

RavenDB uses a familiar SQL-like query language, and most teams will only need a day at most to get up to speed. Where friction does appear, Oren suggests, it is often due to assumptions carried over from other platforms around security and high availability. For RavenDB, these are built into the design so don’t cause extra workload that needs to be factored in.

Coming about as the result of the experience of operational pain by the company’s founder himself, RavenDB’s difference stems from accumulated design decisions: background indexing, query-aware optimisation, the separation of security and authentication issues, and latterly, the need for constraints on AI tooling. In everyday use, developers experience fewer sharp edges, and in the longer term, business leaders see a reduction in costs, especially around the times of change. The combination is compelling enough to displace entrenched platforms in many contexts.

In the sterilised promotional videos for smart warehouses, autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) glide in perfect, balletic harmony. They weave past human workers, dodge dropped pallets and optimise their paths in real-time. It looks seamless.

In the real world, however, it is messy. A robot moving at 2.5 metres per second that relies on a cloud server to tell it whether that obstacle is a cardboard box or a human ankle is a liability. If the wi-fi flickers for 200 milliseconds (a blink of an eye in human terms), that robot is effectively blind. In a highly dense facility, 200 milliseconds is the difference between a smooth operation and a collision.

This is the “latency trap,” and it is currently the single biggest bottleneck in eCommerce logistics. For the past decade, the industry dogma has been to centralise intelligence: push all data to the cloud, process it with massive compute power and send instructions back. But as we approach the physical limits of bandwidth and speed, engineers are realising that the cloud is simply too far away. The next generation of smart warehouses isn’t getting smarter by connecting to a larger server farm; it’s getting smarter by severing the cord.

The physics of “real-time”

To understand why the industry is pivoting to Edge AI, we have to look at the maths of modern fulfilment.

In a traditional setup, a robot’s LIDAR or camera sensors capture data. That data is compressed, packeted and transmitted via local wi-fi to a gateway, then through fibre optics to a data centre (often hundreds of miles away). The AI model in the cloud processes the image (“Object detected: Forklift”), determines an action (“Stop”) and sends the command back down the chain.

Even with fibber, the round-trip time (RTT) can hover between 50 to 100 milliseconds. Add in network jitter, packet loss in a warehouse full of metal racking (which acts as a Faraday cage) and server processing time. Then boom, the delay can spike to half a second.

For a predictive algorithm analysing sales data, half a second is irrelevant. For a 500kg robot navigating a narrow aisle, it is an eternity.

This is why the architecture of eCommerce logistics is flipping upside down. We are moving from a “Hive Mind” model (one central brain controlling all drones) to a “Swarm” model (smart drones making their own decisions).

The rise of on-device inference

The solution lies in edge AI: moving the inference (the decision-making process) directly onto the robot itself.

Thanks to the explosion in efficient, high-performing silicon, specifically system-on-modules (SoMs) like the NVIDIA Jetson series or specialised TPUs, robots no longer need to ask permission to stop. They process the sensor data locally. The camera sees the obstacle, the onboard chip runs the neural network and the brakes are applied in single-digit milliseconds. No internet required.

The transformation does more than just prevent accidents. It fundamentally changes the bandwidth economics of the warehouse. A facility running at lets say, 500 AMRs, cannot feasibly stream high-definition video feeds from every robot to the cloud simultaneously. The truth is, the bandwidth cost alone would destroy the margins. By processing video locally and only sending metadata (e.g., “Aisle 4 blocked by debris”) to the central server, warehouses can scale their fleets without totally crushing their network infrastructure.

The 3PL adoption curve

The technological shift is creating a divide in the logistics market. On one side, you have legacy providers running rigid, older automation systems. On the other hand, you have ‘tech-forward’ third-party logistics (3PL) providers who are treating their warehouses as software platforms.

The agility of a 3PL for eCommerce is now defined by its tech stack. Modern providers are adopting these edge-enabled systems not just for safety, but for speed. When a 3PL integrates edge-computing robotics, they aren’t just installing machines; they are installing a dynamic mesh network that adapts to order volume in real-time.

For example, during peak season (black Friday/cyber Monday), the volume of goods moving through a facility can triple. You don’t want systems completely dependent on the cloud because it would slow them down exactly when speed is paramount. An edge-based fleet, however, maintains its performance because each unit carries its own compute power. It scales linearly. The reliability is what separates top-tier fulfilment partners from those who crumble under the December crush.

Computer vision: The killer app for the edge

While navigation is the immediate safety use case, the most lucrative application of Edge AI is actually in quality control and tracking. This is where the barcode, a technology that has survived for 50 years, finally faces its extinction.

In a standard workflow, a package is scanned manually at multiple touchpoints. It’s slow, prone to human error and tediously repetitive.

Edge AI enables “passive tracking” via Computer Vision. Cameras mounted on conveyor belts or worn by workers (smart glasses) run object recognition models locally. As a package moves down the line, the AI identifies it by its dimensions, logo and shipping label text simultaneously.

This requires massive processing power. Running a YOLO (you only look once) object detection model at 60 frames per second on 50 different cameras is not something you can easily offload to the cloud without massive lag and cost. It has to happen at the edge.

When this works, the results are invisible but profound. “Lost” inventory becomes a rarity because the system “sees” every item constantly. If a worker places a package in the wrong bin, an overhead camera (running local inference) detects the anomaly and flashes a red light instantly. The error is caught before the item even leaves the station.

The data gravity problem

There is, however, a catch. If the robots are thinking for themselves, how do you improve their collective intelligence?

In a completely cloud-centric model, all data is in a single place, making it easy to retrain models. In an edge-centric model on the other hand, the data is fragmented in hundreds of different devices. This introduces the challenge of “Data Gravity.” To solve this, the industry is turning to federated learning.

This means that if one robot learns that a specific type of shrink wrap confuses its sensors, every robot in the fleet wakes up the next day knowing how to handle it. It is collective evolution without the bandwidth bloat.

Why 5G is the enabler (not the saviour)

You cannot talk about the smart warehouse without mentioning 5G, but it is important to understand its actual role. Marketing hype suggests 5G solves latency. It helps, certainly, offering sub-10ms latency theoretically. But for eCommerce logistics, 5G is not the brain. No, it is the nervous system.

5G private networks are becoming the standard for these facilities because they offer a dedicated spectrum. Wi-fi is notorious for interference. Metal racking, other devices and microwave ovens in the breakroom can degrade the signal. A private 5G slice guarantees that the robots (and the important edge devices) have a dedicated lane that is immune to the noise.

However, 5G is the pipe, not the processor. It allows the edge devices to communicate with each other (machine-to-machine or M2M communication) faster. This enables “swarm intelligence.” If Robot A encounters a spill in Aisle 3, it can broadcast a “Keep Out” zone to the local mesh network. Robot B, C and D reroute instantly without ever needing to query the central server. The network effect amplifies the value of the edge compute.

The future: The warehouse as a neural network

Looking forward to 2026 and beyond, the definition of a “warehouse” is pivoting. It is no longer just a storage shed; it is becoming a physical neural network.

Every sensor, camera, robot and conveyor belt is becoming a node with its own compute capacity. The walls themselves are getting smart. We are seeing the deployment of ‘Smart Floor’ tiles that can sense weight and foot traffic, processing that data locally to optimise heating and lighting or detect unauthorised access.

For the enterprise, the message is clear: the competitive advantage in eCommerce logistics is no longer just about square footage or location. It is about compute density.

The winners in this space will be the ones who can push intelligence the furthest out to the edge. They will be the ones who understand that in a world demanding instant gratification, the speed of light is simply too slow and the smartest decision is the one made right where the action is.

The cloud will always have a place for long-term analytics and storage, but for the kinetic, chaotic, fast-moving reality of the warehouse floor, the edge has already won. The revolution is happening on the device, millisecond by millisecond and it is reshaping the global supply chain… one decision at a time.

If you have ever taken a self-driving Uber through downtown LA, you might recognise the strange sense of uncertainty that settles in when there is no driver and no conversation, just a quiet car making assumptions about the world around it. The journey feels fine until the car misreads a shadow or slows abruptly for something harmless. In that moment you see the real issue with autonomy. It does not panic when it should, and that gap between confidence and judgement is where trust is either earned or lost. Much of today’s enterprise AI feels remarkably similar. It is competent without being confident, and efficient without being empathetic, which is why the deciding factor in every successful deployment is no longer computing power but trust.

The MLQ State of AI in Business 2025 [PDF] report puts a sharp number on this. 95% of early AI pilots fail to produce measurable ROI, not because the technology is weak but because it is mismatched to the problems organisations are trying to solve. The pattern repeats itself in industries. Leaders get uneasy when they can’t tell if the output is right, teams are unsure whether dashboards can be trusted, and customers quickly lose patience when an interaction feels automated rather than supported. Anyone who has been locked out of their bank account while the automated recovery system insists their answers are wrong knows how quickly confidence evaporates.

Klarna remains the most publicised example of large-scale automation in action. The company has now halved its workforce since 2022 and says internal AI systems are performing the work of 853 full-time roles, up from 700 earlier this year. Revenues have risen 108%, while average employee compensation has increased 60%, funded in part by those operational gains. Yet the picture is more complicated. Klarna still reported a 95 million dollar quarterly loss, and its CEO has warned that further staff reductions are likely. It shows that automation alone does not create stability. Without accountability and structure, the experience breaks down long before the AI does. As Jason Roos, CEO of CCaaS provider Cirrus, puts it, “Any transformation that unsettles confidence, inside or outside the business, carries a cost you cannot ignore. it can leave you worse off.”

We have already seen what happens when autonomy runs ahead of accountability. The UK’s Department for Work and Pensions used an algorithm that wrongly flagged around 200,000 housing-benefit claims as potentially fraudulent, even though the majority were legitimate. The problem wasn’t the technology. It was the absence of clear ownership over its decisions. When an automated system suspends the wrong account, rejects the wrong claim or creates unnecessary fear, the issue is never just “why did the model misfire?” It’s “who owns the outcome?” Without that answer, trust becomes fragile.

“The missing step is always readiness,” says Roos. “If the process, the data and the guardrails aren’t in place, autonomy doesn’t accelerate performance, it amplifies the weaknesses. Accountability has to come first. Start with the outcome, find where effort is being wasted, check your readiness and governance, and only then automate. Skip those steps and accountability disappears just as fast as the efficiency gains arrive.”

Part of the problem is an obsession with scale without the grounding that makes scale sustainable. Many organisations push toward autonomous agents that can act decisively, yet very few pause to consider what happens when those actions drift outside expected boundaries. The Edelman Trust Barometer [PDF] shows a steady decline in public trust in AI over the past five years, and a joint KPMG and University of Melbourne study found that workers prefer more human involvement in almost half the tasks examined. The findings reinforce a simple point. Trust rarely comes from pushing models harder. It comes from people taking the time to understand how decisions are made, and from governance that behaves less like a brake pedal and more like a steering wheel.

The same dynamics appear on the customer side. PwC’s trust research reveals a wide gulf between perception and reality. Most executives believe customers trust their organisation, while only a minority of customers agree. Other surveys show that transparency helps to close this gap, with large majorities of consumers wanting clear disclosure when AI is used in service experiences. Without that clarity, people do not feel reassured. They feel misled, and the relationship becomes strained. Companies that communicate openly about their AI use are not only protecting trust but also normalising the idea that technology and human support can co-exist.

Some of the confusion stems from the term “agentic AI” itself. Much of the market treats it as something unpredictable or self-directing, when in reality it is workflow automation with reasoning and recall. It is a structured way for systems to make modest decisions inside parameters designed by people. The deployments that scale safely all follow the same sequence. They start with the outcome they want to improve, then look at where unnecessary effort sits in the workflow, then assess whether their systems and teams are ready for autonomy, and only then choose the technology. Reversing that order does not speed anything up. It simply creates faster mistakes. As Roos says, AI should expand human judgement, not replace it.

All of this points toward a wider truth. Every wave of automation eventually becomes a social question rather than a purely technical one. Amazon built its dominance through operational consistency, but it also built a level of confidence that the parcel would arrive. When that confidence dips, customers move on. AI follows the same pattern. You can deploy sophisticated, self-correcting systems, but if the customer feels tricked or misled at any point, the trust breaks. Internally, the same pressures apply. The KPMG global study [PDF] highlights how quickly employees disengage when they do not understand how decisions are made or who is accountable for them. Without that clarity, adoption stalls.

As agentic systems take on more conversational roles, the emotional dimension becomes even more significant. Early reviews of autonomous chat interactions show that people now judge their experience not only by whether they were helped but also by whether the interaction felt attentive and respectful. A customer who feels dismissed rarely keeps the frustration to themselves. The emotional tone of AI is becoming a genuine operational factor, and systems that cannot meet that expectation risk becoming liabilities.

The difficult truth is that technology will continue to move faster than people’s instinctive comfort with it. Trust will always lag behind innovation. That is not an argument against progress. It is an argument for maturity. Every AI leader should be asking whether they would trust the system with their own data, whether they can explain its last decision in plain language, and who steps in when something goes wrong. If those answers are unclear, the organisation is not leading transformation. It is preparing an apology.

Roos puts it simply, “Agentic AI is not the concern. Unaccountable AI is.”

When trust goes, adoption goes, and the project that looked transformative becomes another entry in the 95% failure rate. Autonomy is not the enemy. Forgetting who is responsible is. The organisations that keep a human hand on the wheel will be the ones still in control when the self-driving hype eventually fades.
